Urogynaecology is a subspecialty of obstretrics and gynaecology which focuses on disorders of the female pelvic floor.

Currently the only accredited training site for urogynaecology training in Western Australia is at King Edward Memorial Hospital. In this role the workload is well balanced between clinics and operating time. As a fellow you are also required to participate in providing afterhours obstetric cover for the hospital.

This is a full-time position with hours ranging between 40 - 60 per week because of the additional afterhours obstetric cover. This role is team based, working with a registrar, RMO and being supervised by a number of urogynaecologists.

This position is open to RANZCOG trainees who have completed their basic training (four year program). It can be commenced in the fifth year of training as part of the Advanced Training Modules.

The urogynaecology program is three years in duration and includes the requirement to undertake the training across two sites. Given there is only one site in Western Australia (KEMH), this requires the trainee to travel interstate or overseas to complete a minimum of six months training in a second site.

The workload is well balanced between clinics and operating time. You are required to complete a research project and exam to complete the certification.

N.B. Career prospects are dependent on both the supply of specialists and the projected future demand for services provided by medical specialists (including general practitioners). The complex interplay of supply and demand is currently being modelled at both a state and national level and will be included when it's available.
