The PMCWA accreditation review table is made available to enable those involved with postgraduate medical education to confirm the accreditation status of a specific term or health site in Western Australia (WA).

PMCWA accredits intern and resident medical officer positions across WA utilising the AMC Accreditation Standards as part of the National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training. Accreditation status is awarded to each site and term by the PMCWA Accreditation and Standards Committee (the Committee).

Accreditation is subject to PMCWA being informed of any significant change during the accredited period which may affect the prevocational training program compliance with accreditation standards.

The above review table provides the following information:

• Health site: The name of the hospital, health service or practice where the accredited term is located.
• Term: The unit, department or placement that is accredited allowing for the placement of interns and residents.
• Term classification: The clinical experience the interns and residents will have exposure to during the term. The term can utilise one or two of the following classifications:
  • Undifferentiated illness patient care
  • Chronic illness patient care
  • Acute and critical illness patient care
  • Perioperative/procedural patient care
  • Non-clinical

NB: ^ indicates the term has been accredited as a shared rotation

• PGY1: the maximum number of PGY1s (can be replaced by PGY2 or PGY3+) that can be allocated to the term.
• PGY2: the maximum number of PGY2s (can be replaced by PGY3+, but NOT PGY1) that can be allocated to the term.
• PGY3+: the maximum number of PGY3+ (CANNOT be replaced by PGY1 or PGY2) that can be allocated to the term.
• Accreditation status: The accreditation awarded to the health service or term, which may be:
  • Full accreditation: All relevant standards have been met with no outstanding conditions or follow up actions required.
  • Provisional accreditation: Not all standards have been met, conditions have been applied with follow up actions required or for new terms/health services. Accreditation is provisional on all standards being met.
  • Accreditation to be withdrawn: Substantial number/depth of standards are unmet, or conditions continue to be unmet after the follow up actions have occurred. PMCWA to escalate to the health service’s executive team.
  • No accreditation: The health site as a whole or individual term is deemed to NOT be suitable and therefore is not accredited.
• Next review type: The next review that is scheduled for that particular term or site, which could be either:
  • Full survey: PMCWA accreditation surveyors visit the site to conduct a full survey of the site and all terms as part of the routine 4-year cycle, where key personnel from the site and terms are interviewed.
  • Follow up survey: PMCWA accreditation surveyors conduct a survey (either site visit or virtually) of the site and/or terms which were previously identified as not meeting one or more accreditation standards, where key personnel from the term or site are interviewed.
  • Mid-cycle progress report: The Director of Postgraduate Medical Education or equivalent prepares a written report 24 months following the full survey. This report allows PMCWA to ensure the health site is continuing to meet accreditation standards and only applies to those with full accreditation.
  • Outstanding Conditions Action Report (OSCAR): The Director of Postgraduate Medical Education or equivalent prepares a report for the Committee addressing the conditions as a result of one or more accreditation standards not being met.
• Next review date: The date by which the next review is due.
