About PMCWA

The Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia (PMCWA) provides leadership and support for early postgraduate medical education and training in Western Australia, supporting the education, training and wellbeing of interns and RMOs.

PMCWA is Responsible For:

  • accrediting and monitoring medical training positions at WA Health sites for prevocational doctors (postgraduate years 1, 2 and 3/plus)
  • monitoring and advising on the supply and demand of prevocational workforce in WA
  • identifying and advising on matters that impact on the health and welfare of prevocational and other non-vocational doctors
  • supporting clinicians and other professionals involved in the education and training of prevocational and other non-vocational doctors
  • developing guidelines and protocols for the education and training of prevocational doctors and other medical practitioners not in vocational training programs
  • coordinating the annual centralised recruitment process for intern positions in WA public hospitals.

Members of the Postgraduate Medical Council are representatives of the stakeholder organisations involved in the support, training, supervision and administration of prevocational doctors and other non-vocational medical officers. Membership to the Postgraduate Medical Council is via Ministerial appointment.

The Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia is also a member of a national body of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils. While the goals and objectives of the Postgraduate Medical Education Councils are similar, their roles differ from state to state. Purpose of the Charter
The Council Charter sets out the roles and responsibilities of the Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia’s (PMCWA) Full Council (Council).
The conduct of the Council is also governed by the Code of Conduct.
Purpose of the Council
The purpose of the Council is to monitor performance and to assist the PMCWA secretariat to perform to its best potential.
