We specialise in providing expertise care in ensuring patients have access to services and information that assist them in making healthy choices for their sexual health and that includes access to STI testing and treatment, increasing engagement for patients by reducing stigma and discrimination through normalising STI care, encouraging patients to engage in responsible behaviour to protect own health and others, information/education on STIs and assessing patients holistically looking at role of vaccination and HIV prevention such as the use of HIV PrEP, contraception, affirmative care to gender expression, and help with healthy sexual relationships. We also have the finger on the pulse when it comes to communicable diseases specifically STIs in terms of epidemiology and emerging sexually transmitted infections, emerging resistance with treatments with certain STIs. Sexual health work varies from state to state and depends on how the local service is developed and needs of the population, at the core of the business is the management of STIs but in WA the work also involves genital dermatology, there is an opportunity to learn high resolution anoscopy for AIN surveillance, use of CO2 laser for management of high grade In disease and surgical removal of anogenital warts. We also have the state wide service for gender affirming care.

Sexual Health Medicine requires you to have the following:

  • Have an open minded approach and be able to empathise with patients from all walks of life.
  • Be sensitive and non-judgemental.
